Interview With Christine Tompkins About Her Experience At Richmond International Raceway

This weekend Christine Tompkins visited Richmond International Raceway for the Heath Calhoun 400 and experienced a fantastic race. This race was not plagued with multiple cautions as we’ve seen for the previous races. More importantly there were no rain delays the whole weekend, unless you want to bring up the race Summer Dreyer attended at the Kansas Speedway for the Camping World Truck Series. Christine had a wonderful time before and after the race, as hopefully you will see after reading this interview.

Daniel Caudill and Summer Dreyer have put together a total of 10 questions for Christine to answer. Hopefully you will enjoy them, it was the first time Summer and Daniel put together a batch of questions so we hope they will get better as the races go by.

Daniel Caudill’s Five Questions

Q. Who did you want to win this weekend? How did they do?

A. I wanted Tony Stewart to win of course but he ended up placing…..23rd I think?

Q. Where exactly where you located at the track: turn 1, 2, 3, 4, backstretch, front stretch?

A. I was seated just right before turn 3.

Q. Was this your first experience at a NASCAR sanctioned race; if not how does Richmond International Speedway compare to the other tracks you have visited?

A. This was not my first race; in fact it’s been my 9th (7th at Richmond). The only other track I’ve been to is Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. Between RIR and LMS, both I REALLY like and I can’t compare the two.

Q. Overall what was your favorite part of the event?

A.
I love the driver intros! It’s great to see the crowd go crazy for Dale Jr. or shout swear words at Kyle Busch.

Q. What would be a couple things you would tell someone who was going to RIR for the first time?

A. 1.) Bring a rain coat (just in case) and 2.) Keep an eye out for drivers that are out and about.

Summer Dreyer’s Five Questions

Q. Who did you think was going to win the race on that final restart: Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, or someone else?

A. At that point I was hoping for [Jeff] Gordon to win.

Q. Were you able to see the flaming piece of debris? If so, what did you think of it?

A.
I MISSED THAT! I was sooo mad.

Q. Were you able to see the whole track from your seats?

A. Yes I was able to.

Q. Did you have a scanner? If so, who did you listen to?

A. Yes I have one and I listen to Tony Stewart! (GO SMOKE!)

Q.
What are some things around the racetrack that you like to do over the weekend?

A. I’m not at the track the whole weekend, but I do get their early in the morning. When I did get there, I spent 90% of my time out side of the track, checking out the different trailers, and seeing if I can spot any of the drivers.

I want to thank Christine Tompkins for accepting the interview request and for being the first of many to get interviewed on Eyes of the Fan. I also want to thank her for the pictures she sent us to use in the interview.
